Visual Journaling will start you using basic media to explore and manipulate materials and understand how to use art as a vehicle for self-expression. Once you work through each media in this workshop you are then confidently going to work through how design elements can be visually supportive for an idea or artwork you have in mind.
The workshop will give you an insight into tools and activities to begin confidently in graphite and pencil, watercolour pencils, painting and dry pastels. You will investigate visual arts elements such as line, colour, shape and texture using a variety of simple media. You will be shown some creative and easy ways to take these techniques and skills further in exercises designed to get you combining these in a journal space. You will also be exploring and experimenting with elements of design and having hands-on experience with a variety of traditional and non-traditional media within your visual journal space. Journaling shows you how to explore and become confident with a variety of mediums, tools and techniques. By understanding the impact of colour and developing a composition as a portrait and still life you will develop a contemporary approach to a versatile medium and enhance your way of designing and developing your own ideas..
You might have heard that keeping a journal is a great way to record your thoughts and understand your emotions. Typical journaling involves only writing—but for those who are more visually inclined, an art journal is a great alternative. An art journal is a visual diary; it combines elements of writing, drawing, painting, collage, and even printmaking to express yourself. This includes your everyday life, as well as your bigger hopes, dreams, and fears. We will also touch on ideas kept in a digital journal and view apps to also enhance your mindfulness of what a visual journal can be! Journal and all materials included.
